"The robot affords a view that rivals any open exposure"

Dr. Wrightson

What is robotic-assisted?

RAS allows surgeons to perform many types of complex procedures with precision, flexibility and control. Seated at the surgeon console of a da Vinci Surgical System, surgeons have 3DHD vision supplied by an endocope-mounted camera. They control instruments with fully wristed dexterity inspired by the human hand—but with a greater range of motion.

Why robot-assisted?

The beginnings of robotic surgery were seen as gimmicky and technology without a home.  Today with over 24,000 peer reviewed publications, robotic surgery has become a standard of care.  It provides superior exposure and nodal dissections in oncologic procedures and has been shown to be equivalent to open or VATS procedure in terms of overall survival.  The greatest advantage for the patient and health care system is in decreased length of stay, decreased perioperative pain, and better quality of life scores.
